The Law of AttrACTION

I am currently listening to Jack Canfield’s audio book The Success Principles which is compiled of a list of proven principles that help you set and achieve your long-term goals and live life to the fullest. Today, I would like to elaborate a bit more on principle 6 The Law of Attraction, which basically refers to what you think, talk, strongly believe and intensely feel about, you will bring about.

The idea behind this theory is that anything in the world, including our thoughts, is made up of energy. Chemistry proves that any physical object is made up of billions of individual atoms. These can be seen as little energy bundles that interact or bond with other atoms into various forms, such as water, soil or plastic. Canfield states that non-physical things, specifically thoughts, are also made up of energy and hence, can bond and interact with any aspect or object of the physical world. There have been many experiments where our brain waves and thoughts were detected as a form of energy that can interact with the physical world. The Law of Attraction is based on the assumption that everything is in a constant state of motion, meaning that energy atoms interact with each other all the time.

Interestingly, we can use this energetic motion by having positive thoughts which will likewise stimulate positive outcomes. You might have heard of the power of intention. If you constantly and deliberately think of something, you will attract and do what is necessary to get what you want.

So, how to use the power of intention? Canfield suggests as 3-step process to manifest what you want in life: Ask – Believe – Receive

1) Ask for what you want (not for what you don’t want)

Everyday you “send out requests” to the world as well as to your subconscious mind by reading, listening, thinking, and talking to people. Most of these actions and thoughts are not deliberate and even contradictory. Be aware that you might even send out negative requests by criticizing yourself, complaining or focusing too much on things you don’t have. In fact, if you worry too much you set negative goals.

So, if your goal is to be fit and healthy, imagine – how would you be feeling if you already were fit and healthy? Start to intentionally create your future life by practicing the thoughts and emotions you would have if you were already there: perhaps feeling happy in your body, expressing self-love, enjoying working out, mindfully feeding your body whole foods and plenty of water, meditating daily, etc. Whenever you catch yourself having negative thoughts, replace them with positive ones: happiness, love, contentment, acceptance, piece, hope, gratitude and joy.

2) Believe that you get what you want, then take action

Our intentions attract events, situations, circumstances and relationships that are necessary to bring about the intended outcome. By maintaining a positive expectancy and being convinced that what you want will absolutely happen, you will take the actions needed to achieve your desired results. These can be obvious actions, like joining a gym or changing your diet. Then, there are “inspired actions” which you take by listening to a gut feeling or when you receive an intuitive hit like the urge to suddenly do something specific. For example, going to a health talk where you meet someone who might just be on the same journey.

3) Receive what you want

In order to achieve your desired result you must become a vibrational match for it (remember every atom is in a constant state of motion). Canfield compares people to a radio station that is broadcasting on a specific frequency. If you want to be fit and healthy, you have to tune your dial to a station that broadcasts fitness and health. You should make it a habit to only choose uplifting, empowering, and motivational thoughts. Another way to bring yourself into a vibrational match is to use affirmations – a statement of your desired goal.

Here are some examples of affirmations:

  • I am so happy that I am fit, healthy, and strong!
  • I love to train and enjoy doing it every day.
  • I am grateful I finally reached my weight loss goals.
  • I am happy I made peace with food. Food nourishes my body, but I nourish my soul.
  • I choose healthy foods everyday. I now crave only foods that increase my well being.
  • I am so happy and grateful for my perfect health.

One way to use affirmations is to write them down and constantly read them to yourself, so that you will actually believe it and make it happen. Consider that the two most powerful feelings to manifest your goals are appreciation and gratitude. In fact, if you had anything you wanted you would feel appreciation and gratitude.
